5G Standalone Engineering Services

Practical engineering support for 5G Standalone networks — from 5G core integration and network function deployment to signalling analysis, testing and operational readiness.

5G Standalone (5G SA) pairs the NG-RAN with a dedicated 5G Core (5GC), built on a service-based architecture in which network functions such as the AMF, SMF, UPF, AUSF, UDM, PCF and NRF communicate over HTTP/2 service-based interfaces. This brings capabilities that non-standalone deployments cannot offer — native network slicing, a flexible QoS model and a cloud-native core — but it also introduces new integration and troubleshooting challenges.

KL-UK supports operators, vendors, integrators and lab teams with the hands-on engineering work that 5G SA programmes depend on: bringing network functions into service, tracing registration and session failures, validating connectivity and preparing services for live operation.

Capabilities

  • 5G Standalone architecture and network components
  • 5G core network integration
  • Network function deployment support
  • Signalling and call-flow analysis
  • Registration and session establishment troubleshooting
  • Service connectivity validation
  • Interoperability testing
  • Performance investigation
  • Technical documentation
  • Operational support

Typical 5G SA challenges we help with

  • UE registration failures, authentication rejects or unexpected deregistration
  • PDU session establishment failures, incorrect DNN or S-NSSAI handling
  • NRF discovery and service-based interface (SBI) integration issues between network functions
  • N2 (NGAP) and N3 (GTP-U) connectivity problems between the gNB and the core
  • N4 (PFCP) session issues between the SMF and UPF
  • QoS flow, policy and charging behaviour that does not match the design

How we approach 5G SA work

Most 5G SA issues are resolved by following the procedure end to end. We work from protocol traces, network function logs and configuration to establish exactly where a registration or session procedure diverges from the expected 3GPP behaviour, then document the cause and the change needed.

For integration and readiness activities, we agree the scope, the test environment and the acceptance criteria with you before work begins, and we leave behind clear documentation so your teams can operate and extend what has been built.

How an engagement works

  1. Discuss — tell us about your requirements, environment and timescales.
  2. Agree scope — we confirm deliverables, approach, availability and any onsite or on-call arrangements.
  3. Deliver — we carry out the agreed engineering, testing or support activities.
  4. Document and hand over — findings, configurations and procedures are recorded for your teams.
